ADC Book Club Deborah Lockhart Dear Friends & Colleagues From the midst of a Sydney lockdown, it is a call to arms!
Australia is 18 months into the global pandemic and last week State and Federal Governments presented their clearest message yet with a call to arms on vaccination supply: ‘We have the vaccine, please get vaccinated as soon as possible’. Vaccination offers us all light at the end of the tunnel.
My young team at the Australian Disputes Centre have taken it upon themselves to lead the way to full vaccination. I am following not far behind, in the slightly slower AZ lane. When the lockdown in Sydney is lifted, ADC will have a fully vaccinated office. We are wanting to do all we can to create a Covid-safe space for ADC staff and for our clients. Our Covid-safe plan reflects this focus.
Wanting to do more during lockdown? If you have not yet completed your Mediation Training and Accreditation, (or you have, and you want to refer a friend or colleague), ADC is offering a snap course from 19 August. I encourage you to grab the opportunity to come out of lockdown with another great achievement stamped on your CV.
For experienced ADR practitioners, if you are yet to make a start on your ADR Awards nominations, my call to arms is to start putting together your submissions today. The focus for these annual ADR Awards is on individual and team accomplish-ments over the past 12 months. Two written references are needed for each submission. And the good news... the submission date is extended to 15 October 2021. I am always proud of the ADC team, but over the past six weeks I have been particularly impressed by a team that has not missed a beat in the NSW lockdown.
For a peek behind the scenes... over the past 6 weeks the ADC team has put together two full mediation training and accreditation courses, our annual Year 10 Schools Debating Competition kicked off last week with 35 students debating over 5 weeks, the Asia-Pacific Commercial Mediation Competition is in full swing with 4 industry leaders having hosted webinars for the students leading up to the competition rounds in September, and ADC’s Book Club meetings have kicked off, and kicked back, with some great conversation over a pleasant red or two. The ADC team has researched issues from the energy sector, to India to the Middle East and have contributed to ADC’s response to a tender. The team has done all this and more, with good grace and high spirits on our Zoom link “Lockdown Lucy”.
It is never too late to join an ADC Book Club. We have another group meeting starting tonight (11 August). It is an easy, engaging way to stay current, while deepening your professional network in a relaxed setting (the couch!)
I look forward welcoming you to the Supreme Court ADR Addresses during September, and to all our volunteers helping with the Asia-Pacific Commercial Mediation Competition on 10th and 11th of September.
To give us all the best chance to throw off the shackles of lockdown and celebrate in style, and in person, ADC’s 35th Anniversary Gala and the presentation ceremony for the Australian ADR Awards 2021 has been moved to 17 February 2022. The theme is ‘Emerald on the Green’, and the greens at the Australian Golf Club will be glittering. My final call to arms, please make plans to celebrate our ADR successes in the Australian ADR Awards 2021, and join us for the Gala Dinner in February!
Stay safe. Deborah Don’t Delay - Nominate Today! 6th Australian ADR Awards The good news... you can add a month to your submissions’ due date: it is now Celebrating outstanding contributions to timely and cost-efficient dispute resolution, the annual Australian ADR Awards recognise both individual and team excellence in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
