ADC Breakfast Workshops are a convenient, cost effective and enjoyable way to meet CLE and National Mediator Accreditation Standards’ CPD requirements to maintain your professional currency. Participants are eligible for one CPD point per workshop.

ADC workshops are highly interactive skills development sessions designed to hone the specialist skills of the mediator. Our workshops form a cornerstone of ADC’s Professional Development program for experienced and newly qualified mediators. Mediation practitioner-trainers conduct sessions focused on different topics each month.

Up-skill, add tools to your tool-kit and enjoy coffee and muffins with you peers.

THIS MONTH: EXPLORATION STAGE; developing your Communication Micro-Skills and Strategies

Creating an opportunity for the parties to effectively explore the issues in dispute can be a challenging stage in the mediation process for both experienced and inexperienced mediators. This session is designed to develop the communication skills needed to ensure appropriate interventions. The key communication skills discussed and practiced in this workshop include the use of open questions, active listening, paraphrasing, reflecting and reframing.  You will learn how to:

  • assist parties to fully explore their issues, including underlying needs and feelings, so they gain an understanding of each other’s perspective;
  • when to use appropriate interventions such as identifying common ground between the parties, and
  • how to balance your interventions and keep parties focused
