Australian ADR Awards Hall of Fame

Recognising significant expertise in the practise of Alternative Dispute Resolution, the three-time winner of an Australian ADR Award, is inducted into the Australian ADR Awards Hall of Fame, and retires from future Awards’ competition.

John Rundell brings over 25 years of professional experience in merchant banking and as a Chartered Accountant to his practice in ADR, allowing him to navigate multidisciplinary disputes that engage law, finance, and industry practice. He is appointed by the Australian Disputes Centre, Resolution Institute, and the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, reflecting both his technical expertise and experience in resolving complex disputes across a range of contexts.

John holds a Master of Laws specialising in Global Business Law and has developed an international practice spanning Asia, Europe, and the United States. As a graded arbitrator and accredited mediator with extensive global exposure, he regularly handles cross-border disputes involving diverse legal systems, regulatory frameworks, and cultural considerations.

John advises and acts as a neutral across a broad range of industries, including banking, engineering, manufacturing, information communications and technology, and government. His experience spans both the private and public sectors, and includes involvement in technically complex and high-value matters requiring detailed financial analysis, contractual interpretation, and strategic negotiation. His extensive experience enhances his effectiveness as an expert determiner, arbitrator and mediator, enabling him to understand commercial realities underlying disputes and tailor resolution processes accordingly.

John is a Fellow of Resolution Institute and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London. John holds an Advanced Certificate in Arbitration and a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, reflecting his standing within the ADR community both domestically and internationally. He continues to contribute to the development of both accounting and ADR, demonstrating an ongoing commitment to advancing professional standards.

John’s excellence in dispute resolution has been formally recognised through multiple accolades, including winning Expert Determiner of the Year for three consecutive years at the Australian ADR Awards. John’s achievements highlight not only the quality of his work, but also his consistency, professionalism, and significant contribution to the ADR industry.
