When equality of rights is debated by a nation, it is timely to remind ourselves that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

When equality of rights is debated, it is also timely to recognise the significant work of our ADR practitioners, whose work is grounded in a fundamental respect for equality and self-determination.

ADR practitioners respect that human beings are endowed with reason and conscience and are well-placed to decide how to resolve their disputes. If a power imbalance exists between disputants, the ADR practitioner brings their skills forward to help rebalance the dynamic, so that all parties to the dispute are free to have an equal say in the outcome.

The Australian Disputes Centre and the ADR industry recently recognised and celebrated excellence in this important work at the 2017 ADR Awards Dinner.

Our congratulations to a field of outstanding nominees, to the ultimate winners (recognised below) and to all Australian ADR practitioners for their incredible skills and dedication to work that everyday respectfully breathes life into our rights of freedom and equality.

When equality of rights is thrown up for a nation to debate, we need to know that our citizens are armed with the knowledge and skills to thoughtfully and eloquently respond. ADC recently held the Grand Final of its annual Year 10 debating competition, when students come together in teams mixed from public and private schools; practising how to work together in a spirit of sisterhood and brotherhood and learning how to debate the merits of social issues. These skills are a cornerstone of our civil society. Congratulations to all students who participated and to our finalists and winners in 2017 (recognised below). Thank you for your enthusiasm and your significant personal and team achievements. You represent Australia’s leaders of tomorrow and we are proud to hear your voices developing in freedom and equality.

Canberra Mediation Training Spotlight

Image

Three great reasons to join ADC’s internationally recognised training programme – what participants have said…

  • The training provided by the ADC was an exceptional quality, the structured learning progression used by the Centre ensure that those who walk away with a qualification don’t just know about the mediation proves, but can implement it.
  • The one on one conversations and professional advice provided by the trainers was invaluable.
  • Of most benefit was the opportunity to utilise and practice its application during the course.
